I am thrilled to have this guy at last! I have long admired his dam, Sweetbrier Ridge Maple, for her powerful and correct dairy structure, her well-formed, well-attached and capacious udder, the strength of her MSL, and her near-perfect teat size and placement, as well as her excellent production and lactation persistence. I believe Maple is one of the two finest does Sweetbrier Ridge ever produced, and I keep trying to talk her owner into showing her. Maybe next season I'll succeed, and if Maple is in good form, I'll bet she walks away with the show. This girl is the whole package, and I've wanted a buck from her for years, but she's only kidded every two or three years, milking through between kiddings, and prior to 2015, she only ever had doelings.
We bred Maple to Scirocco (sire of Moon River) for 2015 kids in order to strengthen the influence of Raven Crest ML1 Selena, with her tremendous lactation persistence, longevity, and kidding ease. Maple finally had not one but two bucklings, and I got to choose! Wave is just a youngster, but I've bred him to Amelie, and we're hoping for a doeling so we can see whether he's as much of a momma's boy as we hope he is. Fingers crossed!
